Ministry of Road Transport ans Highway launched information technology tool on 13 January 2020 called as IRDA.
It is central accident database management system to help in analyzing causes of road accident so as to help deviceing safety interventions to reduce such accidents in future.
According to world road statistic annually realized by international road federation, India has recorded the highest number of deaths in road accidents in the year 2018.
According to the report india comes at first place, china second, USA third when it comes to road accidents happening globally.
As per government of India 1,50,000 people lost there life in road accidents in the year 2018. So for long time a central accident database need felt neccesory and resently such an information technology tool was developed by Indian institute of technology madras.
The developed tool will be Implemented by National informatics center.
this project involving integrated road accident database is supported by world bank. Total project cost around 250 crore.
It helps to development and implementation data led safety interventions so as to reduce road accidents in future, having an accident database is also the first step towards achieving scientific safety management.
this database management system will be first launched in 6 states that have highest number of road accidents in India
